Cultural Equity Statement

Flatirons Community Orchestra strives to be open and inclusive, and to put the “community” in “community orchestra” as our primary goal. We play for the love of making music together. We do not discriminate against any person or organization, based on age, race, sex, color, creed, religion, national origin, native language, sexual orientation, transgender status, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, ancestry, marital status, gender, veteran status, political service, affiliation, or disability. We are accepting, and we have joined forces in FCO to make a place that we feel is unique. Our organization and policies have been structured with the goal of maximizing inclusiveness and community, and to increase our enjoyment of rehearsing and performing together.

To achieve FCO’s vision of “musical opportunity for all”, all FCO members must have equitable opportunity to participate in the cultural life of our organization as artists, audience, volunteers, administrators, board members, and donors.

  • Cultural equity embodies the values, beliefs, policies, and practices that ensure all people are represented in the: Development of arts, science, history and heritage opportunities; Support of artists and cultural creators; Nurturing of accessible, relevant, and innovative venues for expression; and just distribution of resources.

  • Champion policies and practices that empower an inclusive and equitable community to support the role of all FCO members.
  • Embed a commitment to cultural equity in all FCO policies and practices.
